He serves as the director of the Allen Discovery Center at Tufts and the co-director of the Institute for Computationally Designed Organisms at Tufts/UVM. He has published over 430 peer-reviewed publications across developmental biology, computer science, and philosophy of mind. Dr. Levin received dual B.S. degrees in computer science and biology, followed by a Ph.D. from Harvard. His graduate work on the molecular basis of left-right asymmetry (Cell 1995) was chosen by the journal Nature as a “Milestone in Developmental Biology in the last century”. Using tools from behavioral and computer science, Dr. Levin seeks to understand the collective intelligence of cells and harness their problem-solving capacities for applications in birth defects, regeneration, cancer, and synthetic bioengineering. The Levin lab develops insights into the diverse intelligence inherent in living, engineered, and hybrid material at all scales, and uses them to develop new regenerative medicine approaches as well as novel biobots and forms of AI.
Learn more
Website: https://www.drmichaellevin.org/
Podcast: https://thoughtforms-life.aipodcast.ing/
Blog: https://thoughtforms.life/
Youtube: Interview with Lex Fridman (Oct 2022)

Read these
Living Things Are Not Machines (Also, They Totally Are) by Michael Levin, NOEMA, 2025.
Why We Fear Diverse Intelligence Like AI by Michael Levin, NOEMA 2024.
Collective intelligence: A unifying concept for integrating biology across scales and substrates by Patrick McMillen and Michael Levin, 2024.
On Having No Head: Cognition throughout Biological Systems by Frantisek Baluska and Michael Levin, 2016.

["post-2591","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
